Story 141

The place where I worked was involved in massive theft, corruption and defrauding the company and although they tried to recruit me on several occasions I always refused to take part. As a result, serious threats were made, directed towards my family members. I blew the whistle. One manager was dismissed and made to sign an NDA but he was replaced by one of his corrupt colleagues that was also involved in the fraud. The owner failed to investigate further. 

I was given three options; 1. Withdraw my accusation to the Police, say i had made it up and keep my job, 2. Be investigated by the company for taking information I should not have and be sacked with nothing, or 3, sign an NDA, leave and get a small payout.

After signing the NDA I was not allowed to claim any connection to the company so my 12 years of impeccable service now read like a blank on my CV. The reference that had been agreed in writing was never sent to any subsequent employer seeking to verify my past worklife. In fact, I lost one job because they wouldn't send a reference. Another company applied for a reference and followed it up with a call and they completely character assassinated me to the point that the job offer was withdrawn and I was told never to contact the company again. 

At no point could I tell anybody that I had signed an NDA!  I couldn't get a job so we had to sell the bungalow. The effect on our lives has been catastrophically life changing. The most sickening thing is that by targeting me he has actually protected the people that have taken so much from his company. Some are still working there now, keeping the skeletons in the cupboard.
