Story 124

I was an Anglican priest in a Canadian Diocese. I was terminated without cause. The bishop and HR Officer of the Diocese asked me to sign an NDA in order to receive severance. I refused on the basis that I wanted a lawyer to review the agreement before I would sign anything. My refusal to sign the NDA and my securing legal counsel made the situation all the worse as the diocese began to weaponize its response, seeking for any post-facto information to justify their decision to terminate me. When my lawyer pointed out that the Diocese did not follow the Canons of the Anglican Church of Canada (Canon XVII related to the termination of priests), the diocese looked for any justification for its failure to properly follow the canon from the outset and relied on misinformation to tarnish my reputation in the community.
